# Add credits & auto-reload

> Help article explaining how to add credits, enable auto-reload, and set monthly spend limits in Brandless

Keep your agents running without interruption. Buying credits covers all voice and chat conversations across your agents within a billing period—and they never expire. You can top up one time when you need it, or set up auto-reload to charge your card automatically when your balance gets low.

## Add a one-time top-up

<Steps>
  <Step title="Go to Usage">
    From your dashboard, select **Usage** in the sidebar. You'll see your current balance and available credit options.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Add credits">
    A dialog opens with quick-pick amounts ($10, $25, \$100) and an **Other** option for a custom amount. Choose a preset or click **Other** to enter your own.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter your amount">
    Type a dollar amount in the **Enter amount** field. The minimum is $5; maximum is $10,000 per transaction.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Complete checkout">
    Click **Buy \[amount] of credits**. You'll be taken to a payment page where you can enter or select a card. Once confirmed, credits are added immediately to your balance.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Credits are purchased at 1:1 — buy $20, get $20 of balance. This is separate from plan-included usage: included credits are consumed first, then your purchased balance.
</Note>

## Turn on auto-reload

Auto-reload charges your saved card automatically when your balance drops below a threshold you set, bringing it back up to a target amount you choose. This ensures your agents never pause mid-conversation.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Save a card first">
    Buy credits at least once to save a payment card to your account. Auto-reload needs a saved card on file.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Go to the Auto-reload section">
    Scroll to **Auto-reload** on the Usage page. You'll see two fields: **When balance reaches** and **Bring balance up to**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set your threshold and target">
    * **When balance reaches**: The dollar amount that triggers a charge (default: \$5).
    * **Bring balance up to**: The dollar amount you want after the charge (default: \$15).

    For example, if you set threshold to $5 and target to $15, auto-reload charges $10 when your balance hits $5.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Turn it on">
    Toggle the switch to **On** or click **Turn on**. If auto-reload is already active, click **Update** to save new threshold or target amounts.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  Some cards (those requiring 3-D Secure verification) cannot be charged silently off-session. If a charge fails for this reason, auto-reload pauses. Check your card and turn it back on to retry.
</Warning>

<Note>
  Auto-reload only charges when your balance is genuinely low. If you already have plenty of credits, it won't trigger until you've used enough to hit the threshold.
</Note>

## Set a monthly spend limit

Prevent unexpected overages by capping how much you spend in a billing period. When you hit the limit, your agents pause until the next billing period begins or you raise the limit.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Go to Monthly spend limit">
    On the Usage page, scroll to the **Monthly spend limit** section.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Set a limit">
    Enter a dollar amount in the field that appears. This is the maximum you'll spend in the current billing period.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Click **Save**. Your limit is now active.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Change or remove anytime">
    Click **Change** to edit the limit or **Remove** to delete it entirely. Removing a limit means no cap applies to the current period.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  The monthly spend limit applies to *period usage only*—it caps how much you burn from both your included and purchased credits. Once a billing period ends, the counter resets.
